Memorial Card Wording Examples for a Mother, Father, Husband or Wife

Most families do not need a poet — they need a starting sentence. These are the wording patterns our designers set most often, arranged so you can lift a line and change the names.

Headings

The line above the name. Keep it to one short phrase.

  • In Loving Memory Of
  • Treasured Memories Of
  • In Loving Memory of Our Dear Mother
  • Cherished Memories Of
  • Always Remembered
  • Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam

For a mother or grandmother

Wording for a mother usually mentions home, care and the family she raised.

  • “In Loving Memory of a Dear Mother and Grandmother, Mary Byrne, Coolgreany, Co. Wexford.”
  • “Treasured Memories of our Mam, who made every house a home.”
  • “Sadly missed by her husband John, her sons and daughters, grandchildren and extended family.”

For a father or grandfather

Wording for a father tends to be plainer, and often names work, land or a club.

  • “In Loving Memory of a Devoted Father and Grandfather, Patrick Doyle, Ballycanew, Co. Wexford.”
  • “Treasured Memories of our Dad — a quiet man with a great heart.”
  • “Loved and sadly missed by his wife, sons, daughters, grandchildren and all his friends in the parish.”

For a husband or wife

Cards for a spouse are often written in the first person, and are usually the shortest and most direct of all.

  • “In Loving Memory of my husband and our father, Thomas Kelly.”
  • “Forever in my heart — your loving wife Anne.”
  • “Married 52 years, together always.”

For a child or young person

Keep wording short and let the layout breathe. We set these with larger margins and a lighter border by default.

  • “In Loving Memory of our beautiful daughter, Aoife.”
  • “Too dearly loved to ever be forgotten.”
  • “Sadly missed by Mam, Dad, her brothers and sisters, and all her friends.”

Anniversary wording

For a month's memory or anniversary, add the occasion line. Without it, the card reads as a funeral card.

  • “Month's Memory — Mass will be offered in St. Michael's Church, Gorey.”
  • “In Loving Memory on your First Anniversary, 14th March 2026.”
  • “Tenth Anniversary — remembered with love today and every day.”

Putting it together

A complete front reads: heading, name, maiden name if used, home place, dates. A complete back reads: verse or prayer, then the family line. Pick one option from each section above and you have a full card.

Type it straight into the online designer and you will see it laid out live, or send it to us and we will set it for you.

Frequently asked questions

What do you write on a memorial card for a mother?
A heading such as “In Loving Memory of a Dear Mother”, her full name including maiden name, the home place, her dates, a verse, and a closing line naming the family who miss her.
What wording is used on an anniversary memorial card?
Add an occasion line such as “Month's Memory” or “In Loving Memory on your First Anniversary” along with the date, above or below the standard name and dates.

It can. Month's memory and anniversary cards often name the church and the date of the mass.
