Some families print memorial cards at home; most have them professionally printed. Here's a fair look at both, including where a home-made card can be the right choice.

Where DIY genuinely suits
If a family has time, a good photograph and a printer at home, and wants something made entirely themselves, that's a fair and personal choice — there's no rule that a memorial card has to be professionally printed. The trade-off is usually time, consistency of the fold and cut, and how long the card lasts without a laminate.
If time is short, or the card needs to look right for a large number of family and friends, having it printed takes the pressure off — we design it, email a proof, and print and post within 2–3 business days once you approve it.

- Is it cheaper to print memorial cards at home?
- Not always. Once you count card stock, ink, wasted prints and the time it takes to design, cut and fold by hand, a professionally printed card often works out similar in cost — and looks noticeably better and lasts longer.
- What do families most often get wrong doing it themselves?
- Using a low-resolution photograph that looks blurry once enlarged, printing on plain paper with no lamination so cards mark easily, and not having anyone check the wording before printing a full run.
- Is there anything DIY memorial cards do well?
- Yes — if a family wants something made by hand, with their own touch, and time isn't tight, a home-made card can be a genuinely personal keepsake. It suits some families better than a printed one, and that's a fair choice.
- What paper and finish do you use?
- 350gsm premium board, finished with a gloss or matte laminate, printed full colour on both sides.
- Do I need to be able to design anything myself?
- No. Send us a photograph and your wording and our own design team builds the card, then emails a proof for you to check before anything is printed.
- How quickly can a professionally printed order arrive?
- Printed and posted within 2–3 business days of you approving the proof, with free collection available from our Gorey shop.
