RIP Memorial Cards – A Lasting Tribute To Your Loved One

Memorial Card Finishes

A memorial card is a keepsake, not a leaflet — it is often kept for years, so the board and finish it is printed on matter. Here is exactly what we use.

What we print on

Board and laminate, explained simply

  • 350gsm board

Every card, bookmark and wallet card is printed on 350gsm premium board — noticeably heavier and stiffer than an ordinary sheet of paper, so the card feels substantial in the hand rather than flimsy.

  • Gloss or matte laminate

Once printed, each piece is laminated in either gloss or matte. Gloss gives brighter colours and a slight shine; matte gives a softer, more subdued look with less glare under light. Both protect the print underneath equally well.

  • Built to be kept

A memorial card is often kept for decades — in a missal, a wallet or a frame. The laminate keeps the photograph and print from fading, smudging or picking up marks from handling over the years.

Why the finish matters

Unlike most printed items, a memorial card is expected to last. It might sit in a missal that is opened every Sunday, travel in a wallet for years, or be kept in a drawer and taken out on anniversaries. A heavier board keeps the card from bending or tearing, and the laminate keeps the photograph looking sharp rather than fading or picking up marks from handling.

We include the finish in every price — there is nothing extra to choose or pay for. Have a look at real samples of the board and finish, or see our full price list.

Questions about board and finish

What paper or board do you print memorial cards on?
We print on 350gsm premium board, which is thicker and stiffer than standard printer paper, giving the card a proper, lasting feel rather than a flimsy one.
Gloss or matte — which finish should I choose?
It comes down to taste. Gloss laminate makes colours and photographs appear slightly brighter and more vivid; matte gives a quieter, more understated look and shows fewer fingerprints. Both are equally durable, so there is no wrong choice.
Can I choose different finishes for different cards in the same order?
Yes, just let us know when you order. Many families choose the same finish across the memorial card, bookmark and wallet card so the full set looks consistent.
Will the laminate protect the photo from fading?
The lamination protects the printed surface from moisture, handling and light scuffing, which helps a card kept in a wallet or missal stay presentable for years. As with any printed item, keeping it out of direct strong sunlight for long periods will help it last even longer.
Is the finish included in the price?
Yes. Board, printing on both sides and lamination are all included in the price shown on our price list — there is no separate charge for choosing gloss over matte.
