RIP Memorial Cards – A Lasting Tribute To Your Loved One

Practical guide

How Many Memorial Cards Should We Order?

Most Irish families order between 100 and 250 memorial cards. Count households rather than people, then add a few dozen spare — that is the number families are glad of afterwards.

Working it out

Three simple rules

You do not need a list of names to arrive at a sensible number.

  • Count households, not people

Most families give one card per household rather than one per person. A couple who called to the house together will be happy with a single card, so counting families keeps the number sensible.

  • Add a few dozen spare

Cards keep arriving into the story long after the funeral — a neighbour home from England, a work colleague, a grandchild who wants one for a missal. Ordering thirty or forty more than you think you need is the part families are never sorry about.

  • Think about the year ahead

A Month's Mind, a first anniversary and a Christmas remembrance all bring the cards out again. If you would rather not reorder, allow for those occasions now.

A rough guide by funeral

A quiet funeral, close family and neighbours
50 to 100 cards. This suits a small parish funeral where the family knows who called.
A typical Irish funeral
100 to 150 cards. This is the most common order we print — enough for the households who called to the house, the church and the graveside, with spares.
A large funeral, a well-known person, or family abroad
200 to 400 cards. Where a person was known through a club, a business or a long working life, the numbers climb quickly, and cards posted abroad add up.

The price per card falls as the quantity rises, so see our memorial card prices before you settle on a number, and read about reprints and extra cards if you would rather start smaller.

Questions about quantities

What is the most common quantity ordered?
One hundred folding memorial cards is by far the most common order, followed by 150 and 250. That is a reflection of Irish funerals rather than anything to do with pricing.
Is it cheaper to order more at once?
Yes. The design and setup work is the same whatever the quantity, so the price per card falls as the quantity rises. You will see the bands on our price list — going from 100 to 150 costs far less than a second, separate order later.
What if we run short?
We keep your artwork on file, so extra cards can be printed exactly as before without starting the design again. It costs more per card than adding them to the first order, but it is always possible.
Should we order bookmarks or wallet cards as well?
Many families order a smaller number of memorial bookmarks or wallet cards alongside the folding cards — the bookmark for a missal or a prayer book, the wallet card to be carried. Fifty of either is a common companion order.
How soon do we have to decide the number?
The quantity is chosen when you order, and once you approve the proof the cards are printed and posted within 2–3 business days. If you are unsure, ring us on 053 94 22900 and we will talk it through with you.
